I Couldn’t Sleep Knowing This Tech Exists: How Curing Dementia Led to a Breakthrough for Kids

Why I spun off to rescue a clinically proven cognitive algorithm and build a medical-grade digital therapeutic for developmental delays.

There are moments that keep you awake at night. For me, it was knowing that a technology proven to restore cognitive function in adults could be the exact breakthrough needed for children with developmental delays—if only someone would bring it to them.

Today, I am thrilled to announce the global launch of tallerRx on Google Play (Tablet exclusive). The name “taller” represents our deepest wish: to help children with developmental delays grow without limits and reach their full potential.

This launch is not just a product release; it is the culmination of a 20-year journey, a radical pivot, and a mission to solve a silent global crisis.

The Crisis of the Waitlist

All over the world, parents of children with developmental delays face an agonizing reality: the waiting list. From the moment they suspect a delay to the day they receive professional therapy, years can pass. The “golden time” for early intervention is lost.

To fix this, we didn’t just build an app. We built a medical-grade solution, and the technology behind it came from an unexpected place.

A 20-Year Detour: From Kids to Dementia and Back

My career began two decades ago, passionately creating multimedia educational content and brain-training games for children. I loved it. However, the market was flooded with giant edutech corporations. Everyday parents couldn’t tell the difference between a simple, flashy game and a scientifically backed cognitive tool.

To survive and prove our technological prowess, my team and I made a hard pivot: we applied our cognitive training algorithms to adult dementia care.

The results were unprecedented. In a clinical trial conducted with Professor Sung Hoon Kang from the Department of Neurology at Korea University Guro Hospital, 47% of patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) returned to normal cognitive levels. This breakthrough efficacy was officially published in Dementia and Neurocognitive Disorders (DND). We had proven that our digital solution wasn’t just a game — it was medicine.

Then, I received a phone call that changed everything.

Professor Jee Hyun Suh, a rehabilitation specialist from Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital, had seen our research. She proposed a joint study: adapting our proven dementia technology to fill the home-therapy gap for children with developmental delays.Once again, the clinical trials proved outstanding therapeutic efficacy, leading to a publication in the international journal, BMC Pediatrics.

The Spinoff: Returning to My True Calling

Despite this massive success, my previous company’s main focus remained on dementia. For over two years, this clinically proven, life-changing app for children sat neglected.

I couldn’t sleep knowing what this technology could do for struggling families while it just sat in a drawer. Developing games for kids is my greatest joy, and I have dedicated 20 years to mastering it. I knew I was the one who had to bring this to the world.

I knew I had to act. Last year, I made the hardest, yet easiest decision of my career: I left my secure position and spun off from the dementia company. I built a new startup with one singular focus: solving the explosive global crisis of developmental delays through Digital Therapeutics (DTx).

The Science of tallerRx: EZ-PD and ACE

Today, we proudly launch tallerRx. It stands apart from standard educational apps because it is powered by two core medical-grade engines designed for optimal cognitive growth:

  • Self-Expanding ZPD (EZ-PD) Mechanism: Based on Vygotsky’s psychological theories, this mechanism constantly identifies the child’s ‘Zone of Proximal Development.’ It dynamically adjusts, allowing children to autonomously expand their cognitive limits without feeling overwhelmed.
  • Adaptive Curriculum Engine (ACE): An AI-driven engine that analyzes the child’s real-time behavioral and cognitive responses to generate a 100% personalized daily curriculum.
